This small garden landscape oil on canvas painting was painted in imitation of Vincent van Gogh's style of work by an anonymous painter. A stamp on the reverse of the original painting has the name "Julius Schmits" followed by two words that are difficult to read, probably "Elberfeld" and possibly "Wuperfiel" or "Wuppertal." When Mrs. Schmits's collection was auctioned in 1925 this painting was no longer included.
